Feeding Habits
Black-crowned Antpitta predominantly feeds on invertebrates, including insects, spiders, and scorpions, as well as amblypygi and small vertebrates like frogs and reptiles. It exhibits specialized foraging behaviors to hunt prey within forest leaf litter.
Habitat
Black-crowned Antpitta is typically found in the verdant understory of wet, primary forests and tall secondary growth. This bird prefers the foothill zones and undulating terrain of hilly areas. These habitats provide the dense vegetation and humid environment conducive to their lifestyle and are located within broader neotropical regions.

The black-crowned antpitta is found in Panama, Costa Rica, and northwestern Colombia. It mostly inhabits altitudes between 300–1000 m in Costa Rica, but is also found in lowlands in Panama.
