Description
The bird is a medium-sized, approximately 60 cm long, brownish dark pheasant with finely spotted buff, short crest, bare red facial skin, brown iris and purplish-blue ocelli on upperbody plumage and half of its tail of twenty feathers. Both sexes are similar. The female has eighteen tail feathers and is smaller than male.

Feeding Habits
Germain's Peacock-pheasant predominantly forages for plant matter, particularly feeding on a variety of berries. No evidence suggests the species consumes carrion. Their diet and feeding behaviors are adapted to ground foraging, with a preference for specific berries characteristic of their habitat.
Habitat
Germain's Peacock-pheasant is commonly found in lowland and sub-montane forests extending to evergreen and semi-evergreen forests that are rich in dipterocarp trees. This species also occupies habitats with thorny bamboo brakes. Germain's Peacock-pheasant exhibits adaptability to disturbed environments, being present in swampy areas as well as logged and secondary forests. Its presence is noted up to elevations of at least 1400 m, with possible sightings around 1800 m, demonstrating its tolerance for a range of forested habitats across broader geographical regions.

Distribution Area
The Germain's peacock-pheasant is endemic to southern Indochina. It is found in the seasonal tropical forests of mid-southern Vietnam and far eastern Cambodia; it can be found readily in Cat Tien National Park. The female usually lays two creamy-white eggs.
Species Status
Due to ongoing habitat loss and limited range, the Germain's peacock-pheasant is evaluated as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. It is listed on Appendix II of CITES.
