Description
The chestnut-backed scimitar babbler (Pomatorhinus montanus) is a species of bird in the family Timaliidae. It is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.

The javan Scimitar Babbler typically inhabits the undergrowth and grassy areas of primary lowland, submontane, and lower montane broadleaf evergreen forests. It is also found in secondary and disturbed forests, lightly logged areas, bamboo stands, and overgrown clearings. Occasionally, the species can be seen in Albizia tree plantations.
