Description
These 13–14-cm long warblers have short rounded wings, a longish tail, strong legs and a short black bill. In breeding plumage, adults are grey-brown above, with a short white supercilium and rufous fringes on the closed wings. The underparts are whitish-buff. The sexes are identical. Feeding Habits
Plain Prinia, an insectivorous bird, predominantly feeds on insects, employing foraging methods like gleaning from foliage. It exhibits specific dietary preferences or adaptations, sourcing food at various times throughout the day.
Habitat
Plain Prinia thrives in a variety of scrubby grasslands which extend from damp environments such as saltmarshes and reedbeds to drier territories inclusive of wheat fields and overgrown gardens. While predominantly avoiding dense forests, plain Prinia is adaptable and can inhabit secondary growth, tamarisk thickets, and mangrove swamp fringes. Elevated regions, such as the Western Ghats, also provide suitable habitats, notably in grassy plateaus interspersed with shrubbery. Plain Prinia is generally found from sea level to altitudes of 2100 meters.
