Description

The scarlet-breasted flowerpecker (Prionochilus thoracicus) is a species of bird in the family Dicaeidae. It is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical swamps. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Scarlet-breasted Flowerpecker's diet mainly includes insects, spiders, fruits, mistletoe berries, and possibly pollen and nectar. They forage at low levels, occasionally mimicking nuthatches by climbing tree trunks, and skillfully extract invertebrates from spider webs.
Habitat
The scarlet-breasted Flowerpecker thrives in a variety of lowland habitats, including peatswamp-forests, heath forests, and areas of secondary growth. These birds are often encountered at the peripheries of forests, as well as in coastal vegetation zones. They have also adapted to human-altered landscapes, being found in casuarina groves, rubber plantations, and regions of heath forest that have experienced fire clearance.
