Description
The dusky-tailed canastero (Pseudasthenes humicola) is a species of bird in the family Furnariidae. It is found in Chile. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry shrubland and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland.

The dusky-tailed Canastero primarily favors environments such as scrublands, xerophytic areas, and sclerophyll forests. These birds are also adapted to desert regions with shrubbery and the fringes of dense xeric woodlands. They display a preference for vegetated valleys and semi-arid hills abundant with bushy flora, particularly in regions with plants like Vachellia caven and Echinopsis chiloensis cacti. Despite this adaptability, the dusky-tailed Canastero exhibits intolerance to human disturbance and is especially localized near maritime deserts in the northern extend of its range.
