Description
The yellow-rumped marshbird is named for its yellow belly, flanks, thighs, and rump. Its head is blackish in color; its breast, back, and wings are blackish brown. The species exhibits slight size dimorphism, with males weighing on average 91.2 g and females weighing on average 81.9 g.

Feeding Habits
Yellow-rumped Marshbird primarily consumes insects, small vertebrates, and seeds. Stomach analyses show a preference for bugs and beetles. They also feed on agricultural leftovers like spilled rice. Yellow-rumped Marshbird forages in low vegetation or on the ground, often in groups, exhibiting sentinel behavior and sometimes mingling with related species.
Habitat
The habitat of yellow-rumped Marshbird primarily consists of marshes, bogs, and wet grasslands, with a preference for regions with sparse tree cover. It thrives in humid or flooded savannas and is one of the few icterids that adapts to the cerrado ecosystem. Additionally, yellow-rumped Marshbird is commonly found in agricultural areas like rice fields within broader wetland ecosystems.

Distribution Area
The yellow-rumped marshbird is found in southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, northern Uruguay, and the Misiones and Corrientes provinces of northeastern Argentina. Its range in Brazil overlaps with that of the brown-and-yellow marshbird. It is most commonly found in shrubby marsh or moist grasslands and avoids treeless habitats.
