Description

The brown cacholote (Pseudoseisura lophotes) is a species of bird in the family Furnariidae. It is mainly found in northern Argentina, western Paraguay and Uruguay; also in southeastern Bolivia and Rio Grande do Sul. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and heavily degraded former forest.

Feeding Habits
Brown Cacholote primarily consumes beetles, larval insects, large ants, and bird eggs, including those of domestic chickens. They also eat seeds and some fruit. They forage in pairs or small flocks, gleaning, probing, and digging in leaf litter, flaking dung, and even hammering at bark for food.
Habitat
The brown Cacholote thrives in a variety of woodlands and scrublands, such as tropical deciduous and gallery forests, notably favoring edges and clearings. Adapted to arid environments, brown Cacholote is commonly found in Chaco woodland and scrub, as well as monte and Prosopis-Acacia (espinilho) woodland. It can also adapt to human-altered landscapes, including urban parks and gardens.
