Description
The painted tiger parrot has green wings and tail, red cap, yellow eye, red rump and tiger stripes on its back and belly.

Feeding Habits
Painted Tiger Parrot primarily feeds on seeds, small hard berries, and fruits of Dacrydium conifers. They forage in small trees and shrubs, occasionally alongside P. madaraszi, displaying flexibility in social feeding.
Habitat
Painted Tiger Parrot primarily resides in montane forests rich with subalpine shrubbery, often beside open grasslands where they may be encountered. This species shows a preference for environments that include a mix of forest growth and adjacent grassy areas. They are also found in areas with secondary growth, indicating a resilience to some ecological changes in their habitat. The general environmental conditions are characterized by a combination of dense vegetation and clearings at high altitudes.

The total population of the painted tiger parrot is unknown, but wildlife surveys indicate that the population is stable and locally common. It is found throughout much of the Bismarck Range and Owen Stanley Range in the provinces of Western Province, Hela Province, Enga Province, Southern Highlands Province, Western Highlands Province, Chimbu Province, Eastern Highlands Province, Morobe Province, Central Province, Oro Province, and Milne Bay Province.
