Size
45 cm
Feeding Habits
Ivory-billed Aracari primarily feeds on various fruits like Ficus and Cecropia, occasionally indulging in flycatching. Often foraging in small groups at canopy levels, they display a notable escape response from fruiting trees when larger species approach.
Habitat
The ivory-billed Aracari thrives in a variety of rainforest environments, prominently favoring seasonally flooded forests and stable terra firme wet forests. This bird species is commonly found in lush lowland regions and mountain foothills, where it frequents bamboo thickets, riverine foliage, gallery forests, and woods skirting streams within savannas. Additionally, ivory-billed Aracari is attracted to secondary forests and tree plantations, often prospering in forest edges. Populations usually peak in early-to-middle successional habitats near aquatic settings, diminishing in later stages and becoming sparse in the most mature forests. The ivory-billed Aracari's adaptive behavior includes habitation of river islands and fluctuating watercourses, contributing to its distribution diversity.
Dite type
Frugivorous
