The lettered aracari is one of the smaller toucans, weighing 130 g (4.6 oz) and being 29 cm (11.5 inches) in length.

The lettered Aracari thrives in lowland evergreen forests, commonly including seasonally flooded areas, upland forests, and secondary growths. Their habitat preferences extend to forested islands and tropical evergreen forests, with a particular affinity for gallery forests and palm woods. They show a notable predominance in flooded forest regions compared to their close relative, the Ivory-billed Aracari.
