Feeding Habits
Black-throated Huet-huet predominantly consumes insects, supplemented by berries and seeds. They exhibit a terrestrial foraging behavior, walking slowly through thickets, scraping the ground with their foot, and pecking and flipping debris with their bill. They occasionally feed in semi-open areas, always near cover.
Habitat
The habitat of black-throated Huet-huet mainly consists of dense, humid forests dominated by Nothofagus trees, frequently accompanied by an understorey of bamboo. These birds are also found in forest edges, areas of secondary growth, and pine plantations, as well as in open bamboo thickets of the Chusquea genus. Additionally, they inhabit hedgerows within agricultural landscapes. While black-throated Huet-huet is largely a ground-dwelling species, it often perches on rocks or in low, shady foliage of trees to sing, especially when it feels threatened.
