Description
It is a small dove, 23 cm in length. The male is mostly pale yellow-white with a red crown and red bar across the back. The female is mostly green, darker on the back and greyer on the head and breast. Her crown is red while the undertail-coverts are red in Samoan birds and yellow in birds from Fiji and Tonga.

Feeding Habits
Many-colored Fruit Dove is exclusively frugivorous, primarily consuming fruits of banyans, notably Ficus prolixa and F. obliqua. Many-colored Fruit Dove also feeds on fruits from Cananga, Bischofia, Dysoxylum, and Santalum species. They forage in small flocks, showing high activity and aggression among males while hopping through tree canopies.
Habitat
The many-colored Fruit Dove primarily dwells in mature forest canopies where it feeds and perches atop tall trees. Its environment includes regions with lush vegetation, often venturing into nearby villages to feed on fruiting banyans. Although it favors lowland forests, it can also be found in areas with scrub forest habitats, encompassing broader geographical regions with tropical climates.
