Description

The claret-breasted fruit dove is 20–21 cm (7.9–8.3 in) in length. The plumage is mainly green apart from a well-defined patch of dark red-brown feathers on the throat and upper breast. The face and forecrown are bluish grey and shoulder has a bluish grey patch.

Claret-breasted Fruit Dove primarily consumes fruit, foraging often in small flocks. These birds exhibit aggressive behavior at feeding sites, displacing others including their own species and different bird genera.
Habitat
Claret-breasted Fruit Dove predominantly inhabits lush primary and secondary forests, as well as forest fringes. These birds are also occasionally found in lightly wooded agricultural areas and gardens. Geographically, they are native to tropical regions, with a preference for forest canopies where they are most active, although they may descend to lower levels at the peripheries of open areas.
