Description
Bannerman's shearwater (Puffinus bannermani) is a seabird in the family Procellariidae formerly considered conspecific with Audubon's shearwater (Puffinus lherminieri).
Feeding Habits
Bannerman's Shearwater, presumed to feed on fish, squid, and crustaceans similar to its P. bailloni relatives, yet lacks specific dietary studies.
Habitat
Bannerman's Shearwater is typically found in marine environments, frequenting offshore waters and exhibiting pelagic behaviors. The species is also known to venture near land, particularly around breeding colonies. Its breeding grounds are primarily located on oceanic islands and rocky offshore islets, where it makes its nests on cliffs and earthy slopes adorned with sparse, herbaceous vegetation. Bannerman's Shearwater may also inhabit rock crevices or burrow into the ground to form colonies. While their precise feeding habits require further study, it is assumed that bannerman's Shearwater forages for fish, squid, and cephalopods, employing various tactics such as surface-seizing, underwater pursuit, and pattering.
Dite type
Piscivorous
