Description
The East Amazonian fire-eye (Pyriglena leuconota) is an insectivorous bird in the antbird family Thamnophilidae. It is found in Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. The East Amazonian fire-eye was described and illustrated by the German naturalist Johann Baptist von Spix in 1824 and given the binomial name Myothera leuconota. The current genus Pyriglena was introduced by the German ornithologist Jean Cabanis in 1847.

Feeding Habits
East Amazonian Fire-eye feeds primarily on insects and arthropods, foraging through leaf litter and understory. It uses unique maneuvers to flush out and capture prey. No specific dietary adaptations noted.
Habitat
The east Amazonian Fire-eye predominantly resides in the understory of evergreen forests in lowland and foothill regions. Preferred habitats feature dense tangles and thickets, commonly found in mature secondary growth, forest edges, and in light-gap areas formed by treefalls within primary forests. This species thrives in environments that provide substantial underbrush and avoid the more open understory of mature forests.
