Description
The flame-winged parakeet (Pyrrhura calliptera), also known as the brown-breasted parakeet, is a species of parrot in the family Psittacidae. It is endemic to forest edge and shrub at altitudes of 1,700–3,400 m (5,600–11,200 ft) above sea level on the east Andean slope in Colombia. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Feeding Habits
Flame-winged Parakeet primarily feeds on a diverse range of fruits including blueberries, blackberries, and those of Clusia, Ficus, and Brunellia colombiana plants, as well as seeds of Espeletia uribeii and Cecropia trees. Additionally, flame-winged Parakeet partakes in cultivated maize. It showcases a varied diet, reflective of its foraging behavior in differing habitats.
Habitat
The habitat of flame-winged Parakeet typically encompasses cloud forest edges and elfin woodlands, often characterized by dense second growth and shrubbery. These environments are intermingled with more open areas such as subpáramo and peatbog páramo as well as human-created clearings. The general region they inhabit includes tropical montane forests.
