Feeding Habits
White-crowned Penduline Tit mainly eats small invertebrates like insects, larvae, and spiders, with a winter diet heavy in seeds, such as reedmace. In Mongolia, willow seeds dominate their spring diet. White-crowned Penduline Tit forages in trees, avoiding reeds, and forms flocks post-breeding, hinting at a social foraging pattern.
Habitat
The white-crowned Penduline Tit primarily inhabits areas close to water, favoring riverine forests with poplars and willows, as well as meadows within floodplains. This species also resides in human-modified landscapes, such as gardens, orchards, and walnut groves. Adapted to desert environments, it nests in turanga trees amidst saxaul scrub. Outside the breeding season, the white-crowned Penduline Tit is found in a variety of open habitats, including forests with tamarisk vegetation, tree-lined embankments, reservoirs, and occasionally reedbeds, particularly during winter.
