Description
The spotted berrypecker (Rhamphocharis crassirostris) is a species of bird in the berrypecker and longbill family Melanocharitidae. Although it is sometimes placed in the genus Melanocharis with the other berrypeckers in the family, it is now treated as distinct enough to merit a monotypic genus, Rhamphocharis. It is found in New Guinea. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.

Feeding Habits
Thick-billed Berrypecker forages in middle to lower canopy layers, consuming berries, figs, and arthropods. Typically solitary, thick-billed Berrypecker may occasionally join small groups at fruitful trees, avoiding open shrub layers. Unique adaptation: stealthy feeding within dense foliage; chance association with other species at shared food sources.
Habitat
The habitat of thick-billed Berrypecker is predominantly montane forests and their edges, often including adjacent secondary growth areas and native gardens. This species is generally found in mountainous regions, where it resides in zones characterized by dense tree cover and lush vegetation, suitable for its feeding and nesting requirements.
