Feeding Habits
Common Scimitarbill primarily consumes insects, like ants and their larvae, flies, caterpillars, spiders, and cockroaches. They also eat small fruits, seeds, and possibly reptile eggs. Common Scimitarbill forages on tree surfaces and sometimes the ground, exhibiting unique behaviors such as upside-down feeding and probing into ant-galls. They may feed on nectar and join mixed-species flocks, which enhances foraging efficiency.
Habitat
The common Scimitarbill is typically found in arid thornbush areas, among palms, within wooded savannas, and in occasionally denser woodlands comprising various mixed types such as miombo and mopane. This species favors environments with Acacia and Combretum trees but is notably absent from true forests and seldom found in more humid woodland regions.
Dite type
Insectivorous
