Description
The Malaysian pied fantail (Rhipidura javanica) is a species of bird in the fantail family and one of 47 species in the genus Rhipidura. It is locally referred to as murai gila, literally "crazy thrush" in the Malay language. It is found in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. A single sight was recorded from Yala National Park of south Sri Lanka.

Malaysian Pied Fantail primarily consumes insects, foraging actively with acrobatic flights. It displays unique tail-fanning to flush out prey and has no special dietary adaptations.
Habitat
Malaysian Pied Fantail are typically found in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Their preferred habitats encompass a range of wooded environments including bamboo thickets, scrublands, mangroves, and swamp-forests. They are also common in second-growth forests and various human-altered landscapes such as parks, gardens, and plantations. Often found near water, malaysian Pied Fantail are predominantly seen in the lowlands, from sea level up to 455 meters, occasionally venturing up to 1530 meters in certain regions. While mostly sticking to dense vegetation, they do wander into open areas and even beaches.
