Feeding Habits
Northern Fantail primarily consumes insects and spiders, executing direct flycatching flights from perches to capture prey. Forages individually or in pairs, often returning to the same perch, sometimes joining mixed-species flocks. Unique behaviors include sallying up to 10-30 m for prey and not commonly associating with other species in Australia.
Habitat
The northern Fantail is found in diverse wooded environments, frequently near forest edges, including rainforests, monsoon forests, and mangroves. It thrives in secondary forests, plantations, roadside trees, scrublands, and even in human-altered landscapes such as village peripheries and gardens. This species adapts to various tropical lowland habitats, showing resilience by inhabiting degraded and regrowth woodlands across broad geographic regions.
