Description
The Orinoco saltator or Orinocan saltator (Saltator orenocensis) is a species of saltator in the family Thraupidae. It is found in Venezuela in areas west, north, and upon the Orinoco River region and to the Caribbean coast; also border regions in adjacent northeast Colombia. It can also be found on the eastern shore of Lake Maracaibo. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.

Feeding Habits
Orinoco Saltator has a primarily vegetarian diet, including flowers, fruits, and seeds, with a fondness for papaya and guava in captivity. It occasionally consumes insects and leaves, though given a choice, prefers fruit. Orinoco Saltator typically forages in small groups, searching mostly at high levels in trees without joining mixed-species flocks.
Habitat
The orinoco Saltator primarily dwells in dry deciduous woodlands and scrubby areas. It is also common in regions with mesic vegetation, such as the edges of dry riverbeds in arid zones, and can be found in vegetated suburban locales. Additionally, it inhabits fringes of gallery forests, preferring terrains with a mix of trees and open areas.
