Description
The varzea schiffornis (Schiffornis major), also called várzea mourner or greater schiffornis, is a species of bird in the family Tityridae. It has traditionally been placed in the manakin family, but evidence strongly suggest it is better placed in Tityridae, where now placed by SACC. It is found in most western regions of the Amazon Basin, and Amazonian Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru; also regions of Venezuela. It mainly occurs in várzea.

Feeding Habits
Varzea Schiffornis's diet and foraging habits are not well-documented but are thought to resemble those of its relative, S. turdina, involving a variety of insects and fruits.
Habitat
The habitat of varzea Schiffornis predominantly consists of seasonally flooded forests, known as várzea. These environments are characterized by periodic inundation, fostering a unique ecosystem where varzea Schiffornis can forage and nest. Broadly, varzea Schiffornis is found in tropical regions that sustain such wetland forests.
