Description
The chotoy spinetail (Schoeniophylax phryganophilus) is a species of bird in the ovenbird family, the Furnariidae. It belongs to the monotypic genus Schoeniophylax. It is found in Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, regions of northern Argentina, and extreme southern Brazil, including the Pantanal. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist shrubland and heavily degraded former forest.

Chotoy Spinetail predominantly feeds on arthropods, especially beetles (Coleoptera), gleaning prey from foliage and small branches typically less than 1 meter above ground, either alone or in pairs.
Habitat
The chotoy Spinetail primarily thrives in diverse, lowland habitats characterized by riparian thickets, second-growth scrub, and open spaces dotted with scattered trees and shrubs. This species is also common along the fringes of marshes and in gallery as well as monte woodlands.
