Description
The Amami woodcock (Scolopax mira) is a medium-sized wader. It is slightly larger and longer-legged than Eurasian woodcock, and may be conspecific. This species is a restricted-range endemic found only in forests on two small islands of the Amami Islands chain in South Japan. Insofar as its habits are known, they are similar to Eurasian woodcock.

Feeding Habits
Amami Woodcock forages by probing soft earth and vegetation on the forest floor and along roadsides. Diet specifics are unknown; however, it likely feeds on invertebrates common to these habitats.
Habitat
The amami Woodcock inhabits broadleaf evergreen forests in hilly areas, with a preference for moist, shaded regions within primary forests. Secondary forests are also part of its habitat. While occasionally found near adjacent fields, including sugarcane plantations, such instances might be more characteristic of a different species. The amami Woodcock maintains its habitat preference year-round.
