The blackish tapaculo (Scytalopus latrans) is a species of bird in the family Rhinocryptidae. It is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.

Habitat
The blackish Tapaculo primarily inhabits the undergrowth of humid to semi-humid forests, bordering areas with thickets of Chusquea bamboo or Neurolepis cane, and dense Polylepis shrubs. This species can also be found in swampy regions and along watercourses, frequently within areas of secondary growth, and occasionally extends into drier zones via riparian vegetation. It shows a preference for more humid broadleaf shrubbery or bamboo when in the vicinity of similar species.
