The white-capped tanager (Sericossypha albocristata) is a South American bird in the tanager fimily Thraupidae. It is the only member of the genus Sericossypha . It is the heaviest but not the longest species of tanager, at a weight of 114 g (4 oz) and a length of 24 cm (9.5 in). This species is glossy black overall with a large white crown and a red throat (which is brightest in adult males). It occurs in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru at elevations of 1600–3200 m. It lives in humid Andean forest in groups of up to 20 individuals. Flocks of these tanagers stay in tight formation, often foraging from tree to tree together. They may eat fruits, seeds, hymenoptera, and coleoptera.

Feeding Habits
White-capped Tanager primarily consumes both plant and animal matter. Their diet includes seeds, fruit, pulp, and various insects such as wasps, ants, bees, and beetle larvae. Notably, they feed on paper wasp larvae, also provided to their nestlings. White-capped Tanager showcases versatility in foraging, both on the ground and in foliage.
Habitat
The habitat of white-capped Tanager encompasses humid montane forests, particularly mossy, evergreen varieties. These birds thrive in environments that are rich in moisture and feature dense, mature vegetation. They are often found in the interior of these lush habitats and are less frequently observed in peripheral areas such as forest edges or regions of tall secondary growth. White-capped Tanager has a localized and fairly scarce presence within its preferred ecosystem.
