Feeding Habits
Monte Yellow Finch, a granivore, consumes mainly seeds from plants like Chloe sp. and Aristida sp., comprising 99.5% of its diet, with only 0.5% arthropods. It forages on the ground or by fluttering to dislodge seeds and may feed in flocks, demonstrating communal roosting and drinking behaviors.
Habitat
The monte Yellow Finch thrives in arid, shrubby regions of the Monte Desert, preferring areas with scattered short shrubs and bare soil. Its preferred environment includes locations near creeks or canyons with wind-shaped sedimentary formations. Dominant vegetation within these habitats varies by region but often consists of creosote bushes, such as Larrea cuneifolia, and various other shrubs, small trees, and cacti, which provide a sparse yet vital ecosystem for this species.
