Description
The yellow-bellied seedeater (Sporophila nigricollis) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae, formerly placed with the American sparrows in the Emberizidae.

Feeding Habits
Yellow-bellied Seedeater primarily feed on grass seeds. They exhibit granivorous behavior, foraging for seeds among grasslands. Their beak is adapted to husk seeds efficiently. No distinct feeding times noted; they are usually seen feeding during daylight hours with no unique preferences reported.
Habitat
Yellow-bellied Seedeater typically inhabit subtropical or tropical high-altitude regions, favoring shrublands and pasturelands that have undergone significant degradation from former forest states. They thrive in open, grassy areas, often seen in milpas and other human-disturbed agricultural landscapes, as well as weedy old fields. These birds occupy a broad altitude range from lowlands up to 2500 meters, but they are most commonly found below 2000 meters.
