Description
Description
The pearly–bellied seedeater (Sporophila pileata) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It was lumped with the copper seedeater, (S. bouvreuil) and known together as the capped seedeater before being split in February 2012. It is found in southern Brazil, Paraguay, northern Uruguay and northeastern Argentina. Its natural habitat is dry savanna.
Feeding Habits
Pearly-bellied Seedeater primarily consumes grass seeds, often foraging by clinging to stems to extract them, and occasionally feeding on the ground. They forage typically in pairs or in mixed-species flocks, displaying unique social feeding dynamics.
Habitat
Pearly-bellied Seedeater thrives in varied open terrains such as cerrado, vast stretches of savannas, tall-grass formations indicative of mature grasslands, and pastures with light grazing. These environments are typically characterized by their flatness and a mixture of grasses and occasional shrubs or small trees, providing a blend of cover and open spaces conducive to the species' survival and nesting preferences.
Dite type
Granivorous
