Description
The sooty babbler (Stachyris herberti) is a species of bird in the family Timaliidae. It is found in Laos and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Feeding Habits
Sooty Babbler's primary diet includes small invertebrates like harvestmen, caterpillars, bugs, stick-insects, and snails, which sooty Babbler hammers against rocks. Foraging in groups of 4–20, sooty Babbler traverses karst limestone surfaces, exploring rock crevices and vegetation understorey, and may also forage in the canopy among vines and lianas.
Habitat
The sooty Babbler primarily inhabits stunted yet closed-canopy lowland broadleaf evergreen forests situated on limestone. These environments are typically characterized by steep cliffs and outcrops, as well as fairly open vegetated karst landscapes.
