Description
It can be easily distinguished by its downcurved beak and the white barred vent and outer undertail, and the tail only notched with slightly flared tips. In flight a white wing-stripe is visible from below. It is a brood parasite on small babblers. It is not known how or whether the drongo-like appearance benefits this species but it is suspected that it aids in brood-parasitism just as hawk-cuckoos appear like hawks. The square-tailed drongo-cuckoo was formerly considered conspecific with the fork-tailed drongo-cuckoo (together known as the Asian drongo-cuckoo), but vocal and morphological differences suggested that the species should be split. That treatment is followed here.

Feeding Habits
Square-tailed Drongo-cuckoo's diet chiefly consists of insects like caterpillars and beetles, and occasionally fruits such as figs. It forages in treetops, employs aerial tactics for swarming termites, and readily associates with mixed-species flocks, exploiting diverse feeding strategies.
Habitat
The square-tailed Drongo-cuckoo primarily inhabits a range of forested environments, including semi-evergreen, swamp, and riparian forests, as well as lowland dipterocarp and peat-swamp forests. It is also found in scrubby areas, forest edges, clearings, and in vegetation such as pine woods, disturbed forests, bamboo thickets, and small forest patches. In addition to natural forest settings, the square-tailed Drongo-cuckoo can occupy human-modified landscapes like plantations for various crops and occasionally in gardens and mangroves, primarily found in lowland areas of broader geographical regions with moist tropical climates.
