Description
The black-throated parrotbill (Suthora nipalensis) is a parrotbill species often placed with the Old World babblers (family Timaliidae) or in a distinct family Paradoxornithidae, but it actually seems to belong to the Sylviidae. It is found in the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent, primarily in the central and eastern Himalayas, and in adjoining parts of Southeast Asia. The species ranges across Bhutan, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Feeding Habits
Black-throated Parrotbill consumes small insects, grass seeds, bamboo buds, and bits of bamboo. Often foraging in groups, they may associate with other species in bird waves. Black-throated Parrotbill exhibits bursts of swift activity, prying at bamboo leaf bases for food, contrasted with slower, methodical foraging or resting periods.
Habitat
The black-throated Parrotbill is predominantly found in habitats consisting of bamboo thickets and dense undergrowth within broadleaf evergreen, oak, rhododendron, and mixed deciduous forests. It also inhabits areas with bamboo jungle, secondary growth, and regions recouping from agricultural use, often at the peripheries of these forests and adjacent tall grasslands. This species is native to the broader mountainous regions of the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia.
