Feeding Habits
Spectacled Monarch's diet mainly consists of small invertebrates such as ants, termites, beetles, cockroaches, spiders, moths, dipterans, orthopterans, and snails. It forages alone or in pairs, often joining mixed-species groups, gleaning in foliage and fluttering over leaves to dislodge prey. Spectacled Monarch hunts across various forest strata, occasionally on the ground, exhibiting a preference for vines and loose bark.
Habitat
The spectacled Monarch resides primarily in dense primary and secondary tropical and subtropical forests, favoring environments like wooded gulleys and adjacent scrubland. It adapts to various other habitats, including rainforests, wet sclerophyll forests, and occasionally adjoining eucalypt forests. The species can also be found in mangroves, and in certain regions, it extends to parks and gardens. Generally, spectacled Monarch occupies a broad range of lowland habitats up to middle elevations in its geographic distribution.
