The red-shouldered spinetail (Synallaxis hellmayri) is a species of bird in the ovenbird family Furnariidae. It is endemic to the Caatinga region of north-eastern Brazil. It is threatened by habitat loss. This species was formerly considered monotypic within the genus Gyalophylax but molecular phylogenetic studies show that it is embedded within Synallaxis.

Feeding Habits
Red-shouldered Spinetail primarily consumes arthropods, including spiders and various insects, complemented by seeds. Engaging in ground-based foraging or just above, red-shouldered Spinetail gleans prey from leaf litter and foliage, often tossing leaves aside to uncover hidden food, sometimes even using its feet to assist in this task.
Habitat
The red-shouldered Spinetail typically inhabits arid deciduous woodlands with a scrubby appearance, characterized by dense thickets with a noticeable presence of terrestrial bromeliads. These woodlands are generally located in regions that exhibit seasonal dryness, supporting a biodiversity adapted to such arid climates.
Dite type
Insectivorous
