Feeding Habits
Rufous-capped Spinetail's diet largely consists of arthropods. Typically spotted in pairs, they often forage with mixed avian groups. Rufous-capped Spinetail searches for food mostly in the understorey, sometimes venturing to the mid-storey or ground. It gleans prey from foliage and branches, usually within 1-2 meters of the earth.
Habitat
Rufous-capped Spinetail typically inhabit montane evergreen forests, tropical lowland evergreen forests, and secondary forests. These birds are frequently found in the undergrowth and edges of forests, as well as in second-growth woodland environments. They show a particular affinity for Chusquea bamboo thickets, and in many areas, they may primarily reside within these habitats. Rufous-capped Spinetail are more associated with true forest conditions than most related species, favoring the dense foliage provided by such ecosystems.
