Description
The streak-capped antwren (Terenura maculata) is a species of bird in the family Thamnophilidae. It is found in the southern Atlantic Forest. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest.
Size
10 cm
Feeding Habits
Streak-capped Antwren primarily feeds on insects and possibly spiders, foraging actively across various forest layers but often lower compared to related species. It hunts by quick movements, gleaning prey from foliage and vine tangles, occasionally hanging upside-down. Streak-capped Antwren sometimes joins mixed-species flocks and rarely manipulates dead leaves during its search for food.
Habitat
The streak-capped Antwren primarily inhabits the canopy and mid-storey regions of evergreen forests, as well as secondary-growth woodlands. These environments offer a dense cover of foliage at various vertical levels, providing essential resources for foraging and nesting. The species is adapted to thrive in areas with thick, undisturbed vegetative growth typical of such forest ecosystems.
Dite type
Insectivorous
