Description
Verreaux's monal-partridge (Tetraophasis obscurus) or the chestnut-throated partridge, is a bird species in the family Phasianidae. It is found only in central China. Its natural habitat is boreal forest. The common name commemorate the French naturalist Jules Verreaux.

Feeding Habits
Verreaux's Monal-partridge primarily consumes leaves, flowers, seeds, and roots. They are known to forage in coveys of 3-5, sometimes forming groups of up to 80 around Tibetan temples, where they are protected and fed by monks.
Habitat
Verreaux's Monal-partridge thrives in a variety of mountainous habitats, including upper mixed broadleaf/coniferous forest, open areas with rhododendron and juniper scrublands, and expansive alpine meadows. They favor environments that are rich in vegetation but not densely forested, often being found in proximity to rocks and streams on grassy or rocky mountain slopes.
