It has a violet crown, upper back, shoulders and belly, a shiny green throat and breast, green lower back, and a deeply forked blue-black tail. The female is 8.4–9 cm long and weighs 3.5 g. She is bright green above and duller green below, with a grey throat and breast. Her tail is rounded, mainly green near the body but with a blue-black lower half and white corners. Feeding Habits
Crowned Woodnymph predominantly feeds on nectar from a wide range of flowers, including epiphytes, shrubs, and trees such as Inga, as well as large herbs like Heliconia. Preferring shaded canopies for foraging, males are particularly territorial and aggressive around abundant floral resources.
Habitat
The crowned Woodnymph occupies humid, dense forests and areas rich in vegetation, such as overgrown clearings and semi-open landscapes, including shaded plantations. Favoring lower altitudes, crowned Woodnymph adapts well from sea level up to 2000 meters, living in both the forest canopy and understory, depending on the season.
