It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Feeding Habits
Dusky-throated Antshrike primarily consumes insects including katydids, other orthopterans, cockroaches, and beetles. It also eats bugs, wasps, lepidopterans, spiders, and occasionally small lizards. Dusky-throated Antshrike forages up to 10 m above ground, often on understorey palms, scanning for prey before sallying up to 2.5 m to underside of foliage or other substrates. It typically forages with mixed-species flocks and sometimes follows army ants for additional food sources.
Habitat
The habitat of dusky-throated Antshrike primarily comprises the understory of lowland evergreen forests, predominantly within terra firme forest ecosystems. They are adapted to areas that are less frequently affected by seasonal flooding, favoring the stable environmental conditions of non-flooded forest regions.
