Description
Castelnau's antshrike (Thamnophilus cryptoleucus) is a species of bird in the family Thamnophilidae. It is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and heavily degraded former forest.

Castelnau's Antshrike thrives primarily on river islands within the vast Amazon basin, favoring the midstory of taller, mature forests and areas with dense vegetation characterized by an understory of Heliconia plants. This species is an obligate river island specialist, yet it is also occasionally encountered in similar mainland habitats with forests and small agricultural clearings, where it adapts to the available environmental conditions.
