Feeding Habits
Black Antshrike primarily consumes insects and arthropods. Its foraging method involves actively hunting prey within foliage and on the ground. This bird exhibits specialized dietary adaptations for extracting and eating its prey from various substrates.
Habitat
Black Antshrike predominantly resides in the lower elevation zones of humid evergreen forests, up to 600 meters above sea level. Its preferred habitats are areas with dense shrubby understorey, specifically favoring thorny, viny thickets and regions with Heliconia plants. Black Antshrike can also be found in regenerating forest clearings, lighter woodland environments, and taller second-growth areas. This species is particularly drawn to both the edges and interior of forests where the undergrowth is rich and intricate.
