The planalto slaty antshrike (Thamnophilus pelzelni) is a species of bird in the family Thamnophilidae. It is endemic to eastern and south-central Brazil. Feeding Habits
Planalto Slaty Antshrike principally consumes insects including larvae and various arthropods, foraging 1-15m above the ground with a preference for 1-5m, using short hops with pauses to scan for prey. Has a unique behavior of tail shivering while foraging and habitually joins mixed-species flocks, sometimes opportunistically feeding in recently burned areas.
Habitat
The planalto Slaty Antshrike inhabits the understory and mid-story regions of deciduous and semi-decidous forests often intertwined with thickets of vines. It is also found along the gallery forests and occasionally towards the edges of evergreen forests. While commonly dwelling in the woodlands, these birds are also located where gallery forests prevail, especially in the southern and western extents of their distribution.
