The rufous-chested tanager (Thlypopsis ornata) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae.

Rufous-chested Tanager primarily consumes insects, including beetles, spiders, and caterpillars. Rufous-chested Tanager forages alone or in groups, actively moving through foliage and gleaning prey from various surfaces, sometimes probing flowers and displaying acrobatic feeding behavior.
Habitat
Rufous-chested Tanager primarily inhabits shrubby montane forest edges and secondary montane woodlands with a preference for scrubby or drier areas. They are also found in wooded ravines and occasionally in Polylepis woodlands but are generally scarce or absent in humid or wet environments. Their presence spans across the broader montane regions of the eastern Andes.
