Description
The brown-flanked tanager (Thlypopsis pectoralis) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is endemic to Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland and heavily degraded former forest.

Brown-flanked Tanager primarily consume tiny insects, caterpillars, and small moths. Foraging occurs in pairs within shrubs and small trees, using hopping, sallying, peering, pecking, and gleaning to locate food, showing a preference for the mid canopy.
Habitat
The brown-flanked Tanager typically inhabits areas with dense shrubbery, including dry slopes populated with shrubs, thickets alongside streams, and hedgerows. They can also be found in alder thickets and near humid forest borders, as well as in tall grass and weed patches adjacent to agricultural areas. This species prefers semi-open environments in semiarid intermontane valleys of broader South American regions.
