Description
The rust-and-yellow tanager (Thlypopsis ruficeps) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest.

Feeding Habits
Rust-and-yellow Tanager's diet consists predominantly of insects. Rust-and-yellow Tanager forages alone or in small groups, often within mixed-species flocks, preferring thick low shrubbery with a median foraging height of 3m. They typically search leaves, notably the undersides, and also explore flowers and bamboo parts, usually catching prey without acrobatics.
Habitat
The rust-and-yellow Tanager frequents bushy second growths, forest edges in humid regions, and cloudforest borders. It has an affinity for Chusquea bamboo thickets and can be occasionally found in Polylepis woodlands. This bird shows a preference for areas with dense, low shrubbery within humid Yungas forests. Its habitat selection spans broadly across the South American tropical and subtropical zones.
