Feeding Habits
Orange-headed Tanager feeds on a varied diet of insects like orthopterans, beetles, flies, and spiders, as well as fruit pulp and seeds. They forage actively, often in pairs or small groups, gleaning prey from foliage and sometimes engaging in short flights to catch flying insects.
Habitat
The orange-headed Tanager primarily inhabits areas characterized by young, secondary growth such as river islands, riverbanks with tall grasses and shrubbery, and open woodlands. This includes environments with early successional vegetation on riverbanks, as well as dry to semi-humid regions where they can be found in the canopy of open woodlands, parks, and gardens. They are also present in shrubby riparian zones along watercourses and scrubby environments along dry riverbeds. Notably, the orange-headed Tanager rarely, if ever, inhabits the interior of continuous forests or dense woodlands.
