Feeding Habits
Azure-shouldered Tanager primarily consumes melastome fruits and palms like Livistona. They exhibit versatile foraging behavior, at times alone or in single-species winter flocks, and in other regions, they join mixed-species groups. Unique for azure-shouldered Tanager is seasonal flock variation, a penchant for tall tree foraging, and aggression towards similar species.
Habitat
The azure-shouldered Tanager is typically found in humid montane forests, open woodlands, and areas of regrowth and forest edges. This species demonstrates a preference for forested habitats compared to others in its genus. It predominantly occupies the seaward slopes of broader mountainous regions.
