Description
The beach kingfisher (Todiramphus saurophagus) is a species of bird in the family Alcedinidae. It is found in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical mangrove forests.

Feeding Habits
Beach Kingfisher forages primarily on crabs at low tide and hunts lizards and insects in coastal vegetation at high tide. It perches and swoops or hovers briefly before diving for fish, even up to 100 m offshore.
Habitat
The habitat of beach Kingfisher encompasses coastal environments such as sandy beaches strewn with driftwood, rocky shores, and coral cliffs. This species is also found in areas with dense vegetation like mangrove swamps, shores lined with overhanging trees, as well as in man-made habitats like coconut plantations. Beach Kingfisher may also frequent garden ponds and can be observed from offshore islets up to several hundred meters inland, typically avoiding areas inhabited by T. chloris.
